The ultimate week long skincare routine for Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is almost here. Indulge in some self care this Valentine's Day. And what better self care than taking care of your skin? No matter if you want your skin to be glowing and radiant to charm your special someone on Valentine's Day or you just want to pamper yourself with some self care; follow this skin care routine to nourish your skin from within, courtesy Beauty Guru, Shahnaz Husain.

Let's start with the basics first- diet. Switch to a natural, organic diet of fresh fruits and vegetables that provide your body with minerals and vitamins which are great for your skin. Drink lots of water, juices and fluids which will help your body to detox and keep your body hydrated. Remove all makeup from your skin before you go to bed and clean your face with a natural face wash. Another most important part of this regime is sleep. Have a deep, quality and minimum of 8 hours of sleep and see how much difference it makes to your skin.

Day 1: We start the routine with the basic skincare routine: cleansing, toning and moisturizing. Before leaving for your work day or if you are working from home, before work, use a natural cleanser to cleanse your skin properly. After that, apply a toner which will help to close the pores and improve blood circulation. After toning, gently massage your face with a herbal moisturiser. Either buy or make a natural face pack at home and use it in the evening. Follow a night skincare regime- cleanse your face and use a night care cream or moisturiser for dry skin before going to bed.

Day 2: Start your day with a shot of warm water, lemon juice and honey which will help to detoxify your body from within. Now it's time to harness the goodness of natural ingredients. Make a thick paste using raw wholesome milk and pure sandalwood powder, apply it on your face in the morning or noon and leave it for 15 minutes. Wash off using plain water. It is an excellent skin-toner and adds firmness to you facial tissues. It helps to cleanse the pores of your skin from excess oil, dirt and even blackheads. In the night, follow the night care regime.

Day 3: In the morning, use a face scrub or a sponge to scrub your face to remove the dead skin cells. Then apply the following face mask. Mix the juice of tomato and cucumber in equal quantities. Now apply this mask on your face and neck. Rinse it off using tap water after 15 mins. This face pack will help to lighten your skin colour, hydrate it and retain moisture. It will rejuvenate your skin, reduce tanning and blemishes and add a glow to your skin. Apply a natural moisturiser before going to bed and get good quality sleep.

Day 4: Take some time off from your busy schedule and give your face a good steam bath. It will open up all the clogged pores of your skin, helping to flush out excess oils, impurities and dirt. Next apply a home-made papaya face pack. Mash ripe papaya. Apply it on your face and neck and gently wash it off after 15 mins. It helps to increase the collagen production and makes your skin soft, supple, radiant and youthful. In the evening, cleanse your face with rose water which will keep your skin looking healthy and fresh after a long day's work. At night, follow the night care regime of cleaning your face and apply a natural moisturiser before bed.

Day 5: Don't forget to start your day with warm water, honey and lemon juice throughout this skincare routine. If you have dark spots, then use a natural under eye lotion to treat your dark circles and apply this scrub afterwards. Blend two tablespoons of oats and mix ten drops of rose water and two tablespoons of glycerine into it and mix it well. Apply this facial scrub before taking bath and wash it off after 10 mins. This scrub will remove dead skin cells, rejuvenate skin and its antiseptic properties will help to combat dermatitis or eczema. Don't forget to follow the night care regime and have a good sleep.

Day 6: By now, you should be able to see a huge difference in your skin from where you started. For the last day we will harness the goodness of Avocado. Take half of ripe avocado and mash it up in a bowl until it is lump-free. Mix two teaspoons of yogurt. Apply this mask on your face and neck and rinse it off with tap water after 15 minutes. Avocado is rich in vitamins and minerals like biotin, calcium and Vitamins B5, C, E and A, which are extremely beneficial for your skin. Drink lots of water and fluids, and have fruits and salads. Don't forget to follow the night regime and get good, quality sleep at night.
