Seven dogs are competing for the title of Britain’s ugliest dog after being shortlisted for being “offensive to look at”.
The dog named the most “aesthetically challenged” will win a makeover and a photoshoot to celebrate their not-so-good looks.
Bulldogs and pugs are among the seven dogs who have reached the final of the competition hosted by Parrot Print, a customised photo-to-canvas printer.
Matt Dahan, founder of ParrotPrint.com, said the finalists “were the ones who made our eyes hurt when we looked at them”.
To determine the winner, Mr Dahan said the judges had the “tough task of choosing exactly which of these mutts is the most offensive to look at”.
The UK’s ugliest dog will receive a photoshoot with their owner as the grand prize.
Mr Dahan said: “We look forward to selecting the winner and sharing their photoshoot experience with the world when we hope to show that every dog is beautiful, no matter how ugly they might first appear.”
One of the finalists, Peggy, certainly has a face only a mother could love. But fortunately for Peggy, who was adopted at six months old, her parents think she’s beautiful.
The four-year-old Pug and Chinese Crested cross was "the last one left on the shelf" when she was adopted by owner Holly Middleton.
She told Hull Live: "We fell in love with her, but at first I just felt a bit sorry for her.”
Peggy, from Yorkshire, received her name based on her looks — apparently, she bears a resemblance to Ms Middleton’s great-grandmother.
But despite entering Peggy into the ugly dog competition, Ms Middleton thinks she is “adorable,” and tells her she’s beautiful “day in day out”.
She said: “I think all the dogs in the contest are beautiful, I’d have every one of them if I could."
Peggy will go head-to-head with Marnie, a French Bulldog; Winston George, a British Bulldog; Jazz, a Brusston; Bella, a Pug; Roger, a Pug and Toy Poodle cross; and Milo, a Blue French Bulldog.
May the ugliest mutt win.
