The two transfers Arsenal must complete before deadline day 'revealed' amid double injury scare

Arsenal may have made a flying start to the new Premier League season, but some supporters believe there is more work to be done in the summer transfer window.

Now, Gunners manager Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu don't have much time left to add to the signings of Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fabio Vieira, Matt Turner and Marquinhos as the window slams shut on Thursday night, but it's likely that the pair will be busy all the way up until deadline day.

"If we can implement the plan that we have, we will try to do [it]. In that plan, that [Pepe leaving] was something that could happen," Arteta told reporters when asked if Arsenal are on the market to replace Nicolas Pepe who has joined Ligue 1 outfit OGC Nice on loan for the remainder of the season.

"Now it is a reality and we have been preparing the last two months in order to achieve what we want. Whether that is possible or not, we will see."

Since the Gunners last signed a player - Zinchenko on July 22 - the focus has been on outgoings with Nuno Tavares, Bernd Leno, Lucas Torreira, Pepe, Runar Alex Runarsson and Pablo Mari among the senior members of the squad to have departed either on loan or on a permanent transfer.

And with Ainsley Maitland-Niles being offered to Southampton, in addition to Hector Bellerin still being linked with a return to Real Betis - with whom he enjoyed a successful loan spell last season - there could be more players leaving the Emirates Stadium before the transfer window closes.

But will the club be able to bring in one or two new signings? For many Arsenal fans on social media, they are hoping the answer to that question is a resounding yes as some have urged Arteta and Edu to complete deals for a central midfielder and winger before the deadline.

This demand comes after Oleksandr Zinchenko and Thomas Partey missed the 2-1 win over Fulham on Saturday evening as their absences prompted concern about the squad depth at Arteta's disposal which could be solved with a double transfer swoop in the coming days.

@UnaiLegacy said: "We need to sign a midfielder and a top winger. We lost 2 players and we look completely worse", @Zoeinitiatives said: "Please sign a Midfielder and a winger", @jaymadan issued a bold prediction: "Arsenal need to sign a midfielder and a winger before the window closes. Will make us fight for top 3 for sure" and @Adithegunner echoed similar: "We are at the top of league but if we wish to continue to be here or even close we need to sign a winger and a midfielder before the end of the window."

Interestingly Arsenal are interested in signing Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans and Wolves winger Pedro Neto. But whether the club can pull off a stunning double deal in the remaining days of the summer transfer window remains to be seen as the pair could cost in the region of £75m combined.
