The two things that 'could' convince Harry Kane to stay at Tottenham amid transfer links

It has been a dismal few days for Tottenham Hotspur after they lost 2-0 at home to local rivals Arsenal in Sunday's North London Derby.

The fact that the Lillywhites now flounder in fifth place in the current Premier League standings is bad enough but when you also consider that the Gunners have a real chance of winning the title this term, now eight points clear at the top, it could go from bad to worse for Spurs fans come May.

To add insult to injury, the futures of head coach Antonio Conte and star striker Harry Kane continue to dominate headlines, with the pair now into the final six months and 18 months of their respective contracts in N17.

Now, the Telegraph have reported that those close to Kane believe that only UEFA Champions League qualification or winning a trophy could tempt the player into staying beyond the current campaign. The England captain appeared keen to leave the club back in the summer of 2021 when Manchester City were interested in acquiring his services but a move failed to materialise and all parties seemingly moved on.

Manchester United have long been credited with an interest in the 29-year-old but it is said that Tottenham will demand £100 million to any English clubs looking to prise Kane away from north London. This may open the door for a move abroad, with both Real Madrid and Bayern Munich previously mooted as potential destinations for the England skipper.

Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn has made no secret of his admiration for the clinical centre-forward, previously heaping praise on Kane when asked about the Bundesliga giant potentially signing him. When quizzed by Sky Germany, via 90min, about potentially signing the Englishman last year, Kahn said: “Of course, he’s a very good player, but there are also many other very good players.

“I’ve read that everywhere – Oliver Kahn and Harry Kane, Hasan [Salihamidzic, Bayern's sporting director] and Harry Kane. We’re considering many, many players and it’s not okay to talk about players who are under contract at other clubs.

"Once again: We have a very good squad that is doing an excellent job at the moment.”
