Kieran Trippier and Fabian Schar have made WhoScored's Premier League team of the season after helping Newcastle United secure a top-four finish.
The duo were both regulars for Eddie Howe's side as they secured Champions League qualification, with Kieran Trippier playing all 38 games, while Schar missed only two. While Trippier's inclusion is likely to come as no surprise to Magpies fans, Schar's might be a little surprising given the widespread praise for his defensive partner Sven Botman.
But WhoScored are stats specialised who rate every player after every game over the course of the season based on key stats in their individual positions. Their team of the season is then compromised of the players with the highest average rating for each position, with Trippier the best right-back in the division this season and Schar's rating only bettered by Brentford's Ethan Pinnock.

While statistics don't always tell the whole story in football, they clearly hold significance, meaning WhoScored's final team carries some weight of relevance and significance. And the numbers say that both players deserve their place in the team.
Schar won more aerial duels than any other Magpies players this season. Only Joelinton averaged more interceptions than The Swiss defender, who also topped Newcastle's clearances chart too. He was ranked highly on many other key stats too.
Trippier, meanwhile, provided seven assists for Newcastle over the course of the campaign and completed over twice as many key passes as any of his team-mates. Heavily involved down the right-hand side, he also produced more passes and crosses per game than any other Newcastle player too.
Alan Shearer recently picked his team of the season and also included two Newcastle United players. Whilst he also had Tripper in his side, he had Nick Pope in goal as his second choice. In WhoScored's team it is Brentford's David Raya between the sticks.
