The true stories behind the new BBC Sherwood drama - the 'jealous' dad who shot his daughter and an ex-miner killed on his doorstep

The BBC's latest drama, Sherwood, has gripped its audience with the story of a harrowing double killing set in an unsuspecting town still reeling from the miners' strike. Screenwriter James Graham returned to his roots to create the six-parter, inspired by two tragic events which took place near his home in Nottinghamshire.

It stars The Walking Dead's David Morrissey as lead detective DCS Ian St Clair. The two heart-breaking real-life events detailed in the drama triggered the largest police manhunt Nottinghamshire police has ever seen.

In unconnected attacks which shook the community, Robert Boyer killed ex-miner Keith Frogson with a crossbow and samurai sword while Terry Rodgers shot his own daughter just weeks after walking her down the aisle. Unusually, both men fled to the same local woodland, evading police for weeks and sparking an unprecedented search that has never been seen since.
