After six thrilling episodes, nine jaw-dropping eliminations and countless conspiratorial conversations on this year’s season of The Traitors Australia, it finally happened: the Traitors have turned on one another.
Wednesday night’s episode saw The Bachelor winner Alex Nation become the deciding vote to send home fellow Traitor and MasterChef star Alvin Quah at the round table, completely changing the course of the season and the dynamic between herself and her supposed ally, Australian Survivor’s Kirby Bentley.
While fans of the global franchise would know from previous seasons that it’s inevitable for those in the turret to start betraying one another — after all, the show is called The Traitors — it doesn’t make it any easier for the person who was stabbed in the back.
The Traitors’ Alvin Quah speaks out after his elimination
Alvin told PEDESTRIAN.TV following his elimination that he’s still trying to process where everything went wrong as he believed he was flying under the radar for the majority of the game.
“I think with a game like this and with a cast like this, all you need to do is the power of suggestion. So all Luke [Packham] did was just mention my name, and then he started this whole really rapid witch hunt where everyone started thinking,” he remarked.
“I don’t think one thing led to my demise. It’s such a combination of stuff in this game; it’s hardcore.”
The Malaysian chef also revealed that, although he and Kirby had conversations about potentially taking the first shot at Alex, he was disappointed he didn’t receive a heads up before receiving her vote.
“I was very surprised that Alex gave me that vote because there wasn’t any sort of conversation,” he shared.
“We always said, ‘If we are going to be strong as a unit, we need to communicate and we need to be able to trust each other, but if push comes to shove and you have to put our names down, tell us. At least give me time to prepare’, and I think what what caught me off guard with Alex’s vote was I did not see it coming.”
Alvin said he understands after watching the show why Alex wrote his name down — and he would’ve done the same if he was put in that position — but he just wishes she told him.
“It caught me off guard, and I was a little bit taken aback. And I tell you what, it took all the restraint in the world to not stand up there and say, ‘You!’,” he laughed. “But that’s against the rules of the game.”
Alvin’s relationship with Alex
Speaking about the dynamic between the three Traitors, Alvin admitted that he trusted Kirby “implicitly” and didn’t have the same relationship with Alex — which ultimately led to his demise.
“Kirby and I connected just moments before we were selected as Traitors, and we kind of bonded. I knew she always had my back, and I always had her back,” he reflected.
“The issue with Alex is I never connected with her at the level I connected with Kirby, and it was really hard. She was playing her social game, basically getting chummy with everyone. And if you ask me, out of the three of us, she was the best acting Traitor because everyone was literally eating out of the palm of her hand.”
With Alvin gone, Alex and Kirby must now decide whether they want to murder another Faithful or recruit them to the dark side. No matter who steps into Alvin’s shoes though, they will never be able to replace his incredible sense of ocular fashion.
The Traitors Australia airs Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 7:30pm on 10.
