The Tottenham fixture Cristian Romero will miss after Premier League red card vs Man City

Tottenham secured a memorable win over Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Harry Kane provided the winning goal after just 15 minutes with that strike seeing the England captain break Jimmy Greaves' goalscoring record of 266 for the club.

In the absence of Antonio Conte, who underwent surgery in the week and was thus recovering at home in Italy, Cristian Stellini lead Spurs to their fifth straight victory against City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in all competitions, with Pep Guardiola's side yet to score at Tottenham's new home since it was opened in 2019.

Tottenham certainly set the precedent for the battle in the early stages with firm challenges from Rodrigo Bentancur and Cristian Romero seeing them cautioned in the first half. Riyad Mahrez struck the bar just before half time, but as the second 45 went on, Spurs were the team creating chances with Kane inches away from converting Ivan Perisic's cross, while Son Heung-min forced Ederson into a save low to his right.

At the other end of the pitch, all 14 players that featured for Spurs put in a herculean shift in the final embers with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg lauded by Gary Neville for his midfield display. Despite their lack of significant attempts, Jack Grealish was a constant threat for the visitors and it was his mazy run that saw Romero dismissed with minutes to spare.

Davinson Sanchez quickly replaced Dejan Kulusevski to fill the hole vacated by the 24-year-old and despite his absence and City's, albeit brief, numerical advantage, Spurs held on for a crucial three points. Celebrations understandably were prominent for Spurs, but reality will soon strike as to the blow they have suffered ahead of their next game.

The second caution of the game picked up by Romero was his sixth of the season in the league and his sending off will see him miss Spurs' next match against Leicester. The Foxes secured an important victory over the weekend against Aston Villa and will be looking to avenge their 5-2 loss to Spurs from November.
