Mumbai: Where the Secondhand Market Has Always Been Serious
Chor Bazaar in Bhendi Bazaar is the oldest and densest secondhand market in Mumbai. The furniture and antique lanes get the most attention, but the clothing stalls tucked behind them, particularly on Mutton Street, are where real finds surface. Expect exported surplus, foreign-label pieces that never made it to retail, and the occasional genuine vintage kurta or Parsi gara-embroidered blouse buried under polyester. Go on a weekday morning before 11 a.m. The serious buyers arrive early and the stall owners are more willing to talk price before the crowds arrive.
