Only a handful of schools in Leeds have today taken the decision to continue teaching despite the severe weather conditions.
As of 9am this morning, 117 schools have announced they would not be open today following heavy snowfall throughout yesterday and overnight. It comes after the Met Office issued an amber and a yellow weather warning for snow and ice for Leeds, with widespread disruption on the roads and public transport expected.
Flight cancellations are also possible. Due to the treacherous conditions on the roads, dozens of schools across Leeds have deemed it unsafe to open to pupils and staff today.
