The Sydney Metro Has Had Its Opening Hours Extended, So In The Words Of Charli xcx, Let’s Ride

After the month-long honeymoon period still hasn’t worn off, lovers of the Sydney Metro rail network will get to spend even more time with their beloved transport system, thanks to the announcement of extended opening hours.

The Sydney Metro stans just won’t stop winning, with a new announcement from Transport NSW that the highly-popular network of automated trains will be running even later in the night, and more often.

And the best part is, the extended hours of Metro-ey goodness all begin today, September 16!

Since it was unveiled to Sydneysiders a month ago, the city’s metro system has moved millions of passengers both physically, emotionally, and spiritually, with 190K people using it on it’s first day.

Hell, PEDESTRIAN.TV’s on-the-(sacred)-ground reporter Issy Phillips loved it so much she caught it for five-hours non-stop to see if would lose its whimsy (it didn’t).

@pedestriantv When I’m on the Metro I feel like a baby in the back seat of a car, gently surrendering to the hum of the motor. How long does this sense of whimsy last? #sydneymetro #sydneytrains #sydneymetrotrain #trains #sydney ♬ original sound – PEDESTRIAN.TV

When asked how she felt about the network’s time extension, Issy explained how this change could help to revitalise the city’s night life.

“Just when you thought the Sydney Metro couldn’t get any better, it somehow does,” she said.

“The extension of rail hours will make late nights out in the city so much easier and provide young people who are looking to explore the city at night with more options with being able to stay out and enjoy the city.

“It could hopefully have a knock on effect too, if people are able to get home later perhaps venues will start to stay open later too. I’m hoping to get a meal in Sydney after 9pm and maybe the Metro is the way to do it.”

But enough about the unparalleled hype (relative to other Australian-based transport systems) for the Metro, let’s see what the massive new extensions are.

What are the new operating hours for the Sydney Metro?

As of September 16, the Sydney Metro system will now continue its operations until after midnight, every night of the week except Sunday.

Even though the Metro was already perfect (and I would never dare criticise it for fear of having all my internet-cred revoked), this does come as a welcome step-up from the 9pm closing time.

What are the new opening hours for the Sydney Metro?

As well as extended operating hours, the Transport NSW has also boosted the Sydney Metro’s service times, with even more metros(?) running on weekdays.

During the peak hours of usage, the Sydney Metro will now run a service every four minutes, as well as one every five minutes during the hours between peak times (10am-3pm).

This change adds an extra 49 Sydney Metro services to every weekday.

And just like Pokemon, you can’t say you’re a true fan unless you’ve caught ’em all.
