Super Bowl LVII matches the Philadephia Eagles against the Kansas City Chiefs and among oddsmakers, the game is basically a toss-up, with the Eagles being installed as a slight favorite.
The two cities couldn’t be any more different. The City of Brotherly Love oozes with history and owns the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, cheesesteaks and Rocky Balboa, while Kansas City is rooted deeply in jazz, barbecue, wheat and its beautiful fountains.
However, both areas do share one thing in common beyond a passion for their football teams and that’s a love of golf.
Both cities have produced notable figures in the game.
Philadelphia can hang its visor on John J. McDermott Jr., the first U.S.-born golfer to win the U.S. Open in 1911 and 1912 and Bryn Mawr native Jay Sigel, who compiled one of the greatest amateur records of all-time born. Kansas City can double down with its native son, eight-time major champion Tom Watson.
Like the city itself, the private clubs in the Philadelphia area are regal and laced with history and tradition, while the Kansas City area offers some of the best layouts in America’s heartland, which are often underappreciated and undervalued on the national scale.
