The sun shone for Dalbeattie's Civic Daze parade

Dalbeattie brought its traditional Civic Daze celebrations to a spectacular conclusion on Saturday with a grand parade through the town.

Hundreds of spectators thronged the streets on Civic Day to enjoy the procession, lead by Civic Princess Lexie Sanderson, which included decorated floats and characters of all descriptions on foot.

Annan Town Band added to the party atmosphere in the scorching sunshine while Reid’s funfair did a roaring trade in Colliston Park.

Other attractions included Bruce Airhead, Above and Beyond, Jedburgh Pipe Band, Balletbox dancers and the Pallas Family Fliers kite display, music and dancing.

Josephine and the Shades kept the party going in the evening before a fireworks finale lit up the night sky to bring celebrations to a close.

The organising committee, chaired by local man Jim Dingwall, could not recall a hotter Civic Day.

Member Keith Dickie said: “The day went off very well. And even for the night time entertainment I don’t think I have seen the park so busy.

“The parade was excellent for all those who took part but I think it was a wee bit curtailed by the weather for people walking. All respect to anybody who entered the parade in that heat – folk had to hang about for the judging in Port Street then walk up to the park at 1pm.”
