There's nothing quite like getting out in nature and taking a scenic walk through the countryside; it's a great way to escape the stresses of daily life and spend some time with friends or family.

We're spoilt for choice with so many beauty spots near to Greater Manchester and there's one incredible place which is less than an hour's drive away.

Lumb Hole Falls is a beautiful waterfall located just outside the town of Hebden Bridge.

Tucked away in the woods it's true hidden gem and you’d be forgiven if you hadn’t come across this gorgeous waterfall before.

It’s one of the prettiest waterfalls you can visit within easy reach of Greater Manchester - and is only a 45 minute drive from Rochdale.

Surrounded by trees and lush greenery, this waterfall is the ultimate tranquil beauty spot where you can lose yourself in the sound of water tumbling into a pool.

Made up of not just one but several waterfalls, at Lumb Hole Falls several streams pour down into a perfectly formed pool from different heights.

It feeds into Crimsworth Dean Beck which flows through the valley which makes up some of the dramatic scenery surrounding Hebden Bridge.

One thing to look out for at the falls is a plaque dedicated to 'Six Young Men' referencing a poem written by Ted Hughes about six men who posed for a photo at the falls just before WWI.

How to get there

The falls themselves are on private land and you are not able to access the waterfalls or picnic at the site. However you are able to view the falls from a nearby public footpath.

There is no parking on nearby private roads.

You are able to walk to the public footpath which goes past Lumb Hole Falls from Hardcastle Crags which is operated by the National Trust - but bear in mind it is around a four mile round trip on foot to the falls so may not be suitable for everyone.

Hardcastle Crags has two car parks; Clough Hole Car Park, HX7 7AZ and Midgehole Car Park, HX7 7AA. Parking is free for National Trust members and costs £5 for non-members.

There’s lots of other walks you can take at Hardcastle Crags too with more than 15 miles of footpaths to explore.
