The Strictly Come Dancing star you didn't know was on Britain's Got Talent

Britain's Got Talent recently returned to our screens after a year off.

The show brings back plenty of familiar faces as Ant and Dec returned to chat to the acts from backstage with Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams watching from the judging panel. Each year the show brings multitudes of memorable acts and whether they're amazing or abysmal, there are many forever etched in viewer's minds.

But there is one famous face that BGT fans might not be aware was ever on the show. Strictly Come Dancing's Kai Widdrington appeared on the ITV talent show long before making his debut on the BBC dance show.

Kai Widdrington has been an impressive addition to the Strictly Come Dancing family since joining the line-up of professional dancers for the 19th series last year, in 2021. But it isn't the first time he has impressed the world with his dance skills.

Back in 2012, when the performer was just 16-years-old he competed for a place in the Royal Variety Show as he entered Britain's Got Talent. He auditioned with Natalia Jeved, where they showcased their Latin dancing skills for the music mogul and fellow judges. In their audition, the pair performed a routine to a rendition of Show Me How You Burlesque by Christina Aguilera from the 2010 film Burlesque.

While judging the act, Simon said: “I’ve got a real feeling about you that you’re going to make something of your lives through real hard work and focus.” The act went on to the live semi-finals, where they were voted through to the final by the judges after landing in the top three contestants.

However, after reaching the final, they sadly finished in last place in the public vote. The series was eventually won by dog dancing act Ashleigh and Pudsey.

Kai refused to give up trying to get his name out there as just two years later, he was back in front of the judges as part of ballroom dance group Kings & Queens. Future Strictly Come Dancing pros Katya and Neil Jones were also a part of the act. The dance troupe made it through to the live semi finals, but failed to land a spot in the final.
