Stokke, the beloved Norwegian brand, make some of the best children’s furniture you can buy.
Founded on the west coast of Norway in 1932, Stokke is perhaps best known for its Tripp Trapp highchair, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.
Created by Norwegian designer Peter Opsvik, the iconic chair launched in 1972 and has sold 12 million copies worldwide. Armed with this knowledge, we jumped at the chance to test out their latest addition to the family, the updated Stokke Sleepi Bed.
Striking the perfect note of Stokke’s signature Nordic design, the Stokke Sleepi is a grow-with-your-child concept. We love the way it can transform from a newborn crib to a toddler bed with open sides, all which Stokke claim helps to boost children’s freedom and independence as they explore their developing curiosity.
In fact, Stokke has updated its StokkeSleepi Nursery Collection with a host of new products that complement the original oval crib beautifully.
We had a look at the latest upgrade in the Sleepi nursery to find out if it’s worth your cash.

What is the Stokke Sleepi and why is it so special?
The design is brilliant: it really is the cot bed that grows with your child.
Designed in 1999 by Susanne Grønlund and Claus Hviid Knudsen, the oval bed cocoons your newborn baby and as they grow. In fact, the Sleepi can be adapted to give your child room to grow right up until they are five years old, an excellent feature.
“The Stokke Sleepi cribs have been part of families around the world for a generation, and it was because of this we knew that a collection update through the lens of our purpose – Here We Grow - was important to us,” Jacob Kragh, the CEO of Stokke told us.
“We know the significance of quality and sustainability and this, combined with emphasis on child development is incredibly important to us. We want to give babies the opportunity to grow in confidence from their early years.”
It really does grow with your child
Simply adjust the height position of the mattress as your child gets bigger and reaches the climbing stage. Once your little one is old enough to get in and out of the bed on their own, you can remove the wheels and one side of the bed for easy access.
We loved the fact there was enough space for to lay down and read to our little one once the side had been removed. âThe whole Sleepi concept has been developed with sound sleep and safety in mind, and we were impressed with the improvements to the original design. These include a new firm and breathable mattress which Stokke also added ‘exceed the highest safety standards’, (sold separately).
Other factors that got the thumbs up were the soft oval shape which Stokke says helps give your baby a ‘sense of security by resembling the mother’s womb.’ The cot has curved edges and therefore no sharp corners which some parents say helped their babies to snooze easier as they no longer banged their head accidentally in the night. The new mattress also has a perforated bottom to aid air circulation.
What about sustainability and value for money?
We really like the fact that the Stokke brand walk their talk when it comes to striving towards sustainable solutions – high-quality, durable materials, together with timeless design, ensure longevity to their products. Many people use the Sleepi for all of their children, keeping their original purchase over many years, something that really makes the Sleepi stand out from the competition.
So, what’s new in the collection?
There’s a new mattress with multiple layers of premium 3D mesh and a core made with Sorona Bicomponent Stretch fibre for increased firmness and breathability. We were impressed to see that this ventilation and air flow all aimed at helping contribute to safe and sound sleep, all while enclosing your child in a nest-like environment that’s both snug and secure. And it really is nest-like. The Sleepi feels a very cosy environment to set your baby down in at bedtime.
Any other new launches in the Sleepi range?
In addition to the iconic cribs, Stokke is also launching a StokkeSleepi Changer, Dresser, and Changing Table - all newly designed with ‘holistic premium designs’ and ‘industry leading materials for long lasting use’, according to the brand. For additional safety, a new mesh liner made from breathable 3D mesh will be part of the launch too.
To recap: the full range now includes the Sleepi Mini, Sleepi Bed, Sleepi Dresser and Changer, Sleepi Changing Table, and the Sleepi Crib Extension.
Accessories include the new breathable Mattress, Bed Protection Sheets, Fitted Sheets, Mesh Liner, Canopy Rods and the timeless Drape Rod and Canopy – all purchased separately. Get the lot and you really will have the nursery of dreams. It’s easy to see why this is one of the best-selling nursery ranges ever made.

Verdict
The Stokke Sleepi has rave reviews from parents across the world, and we’re no different. We adore this gorgeous nest-like baby bed.
The design is superb and with four mattress levels offering safety and flexibility for each age and stage of development, it really is the cot that grows with your child.
One of the best parts of the Sleepi are the wheels. Not only do they allow you to move the cot, but they also offer a peaceful rocking motion to help send your little one to sleep easily - a feature worth its weight in gold, as any sleep-deprived parent will attest.
The space-saving design means that the cot can stay close when you first bring your newborn home or if your toddler wakes in the night and wants you nearby. The design need a shoutout too: we’ve never had so many compliments.
In all, a beautiful addition to any nursery and a worthy investment that’ll pay for itself in years to come. Highly recommend.
