Why Madhya Pradesh, and Why Now
Most people chasing stepwells head to Rajasthan. Rani ki Vav in Patan gets the UNESCO plaque and the Instagram queue. But Madhya Pradesh has been quietly holding a parallel inventory of baoli architecture, older in some cases, less restored in others, and almost entirely free of the infrastructure that turns heritage into theatre. The state sits at the geographic and historical crossroads of the Paramara, Chandela, and later Sultanate building traditions. Each left stepwells behind. Nobody has stitched them into a single trail yet.
