The Steelers Just Drafted the Son of One of Their Former Stars

With the first pick of the second round, the Steelers took a familiar face. With pick No. 32, Pittsburgh officially selected cornerback Joey Porter Jr. out of Penn State, the son of Steelers legend and former linebacker Joey Porter.

Porter Jr. is a cornerback out of Penn State, who spent four years with the Nittany Lions and started 23 games over the past two seasons. His father played in Pittsburgh for eight seasons, along with three in Miami and two in Arizona, and coached for the Steelers from 2015 to ’18.

The Steelers received this pick from the Bears as part of the Chase Claypool trade ahead of the trade deadline last year. Since the Dolphins forfeited their first-round pick this year, pick No. 32 is a second-round pick instead of in the first round.

Last night, the Steelers traded up to select offensive lineman Broderick Jones after trading up to pick No. 14. Pittsburgh reportedly considered trading back with this pick, as they were getting calls about it throughout the day. However, they chose to take Porter Jr., who many had as a first rounder, instead.
