The simple two-word tribute to the Queen that's bringing people to tears

The death of HM The Queen has caused thousands of people to lay flowers in memory of the Sovereign, who passed away on Thursday.

From Buckingham Palace and Balmoral to Windsor Castle and St James's Palace, royal fans have laid tributes in their droves as a sea of flowers have flooded the gates of royal residences in recent days. St Ann's Square in Manchester city centre has been the focus of tributes in our area.

The hundreds of thousands of heartfelt tributes include handcrafted gifts, flower bouquets and hand-written letters. However, one heart-breaking tribute has left people in tears as a royal fan has nodded to the Queen's wonderful relationship with the iconic fictional bear, Paddington, reports The Mirror.

The grieving well-wisher left a marmalade sandwich inside a plastic bag next to a toy Paddington Bear at the gates of the Palace of Holyroodhouse. The zipper wallet was emotionally labelled 'For later!' with two kisses in handwritten ink, echoing what Paddington Bear would have said to the beloved Queen when they both featured in a special sketch for her Jubilee celebrations in June.

The tear-jerking tribute alludes to the famous sketch where the Queen appeared alongside the well-loved children's character. In the sketch, the longest-reigning monarch joked to the beloved bear that she liked to keep marmalade sandwiches in her handbag and even pulled one out to prove it.

After an onlooker snapped a photo of the emotional tribute, it has since gone viral on social media as grieving royal fans were overwhelmed by the sentimentality of the sandwich. Broadcaster Simon McCoy shared the image on Twitter with the caption "From Paddington" with the hashtag #TheQueen.

Amassing more than 14,000 likes on the platform, many people shed tears at the heartfelt tribute as they were reminded of the wonderful connection that the children's character had with the late Queen. One person wrote: "this bought tears to my eyes again" while another added "Darned Paddington keeps sending me over the edge" with crying emojis.

Commenting on the sweet sandwich tribute, another Twitter user said: "It’s sometimes the small things that make you cry". Another person commented: "What a beautiful, simple and wonderful tribute".

Scots mourning the late Queen have continued to pay their respects to her, two days after her passing. Many people are still leaving flowers, gifts and other tributes at Balmoral castle in Aberdeenshire, as well as the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh.

Laying down another Paddington-themed gift, one visitor left a copy of Michael Bond’s book Paddington At The Rainbow’s End at the gates of Holyrood house. A note written on it said simply: “One last story Ma’am. X”

Following the sad news of the Queen's passing at Balmoral on Thursday evening, Paddington Bear shared an emotional tribute to Her Majesty. A tweet shared from Paddington's official Twitter account read: "Thank you Ma’am, for everything."

It swiftly went viral on the platform and currently has more than 150,000 likes as people shed tears at the sweet note.
