The secret weapon that could see Arsenal edge ahead of Chelsea and Tottenham in Borna Sosa race

Arsenal could potentially have a secret weapon in their efforts to sign VfB Stuttgart defender Borna Sosa.

The Croatian has been linked with a move to Arsenal over recent weeks, whilst Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have also been credited with an interest in him.

It is certainly no surprise to see a number of clubs closely tracking Sosa after the 24-year-old’s impressive performances for the Bundesliga outfit so far this season.

He has scored twice and notched five assists for Die Roten this term despite their struggles in staving off the threat of relegation.

It might then be a task to convince him of a move to the Emirates Stadium, especially if the competition for his services is so fierce. Meanwhile, his contract is also set to run until 2025 so it remains to be seen how easy it would be to convince Stuttgart to sell.

However, the Gunners could potentially call upon one of their own in order to speak up a switch to the red half of north London.

All season long, Sosa has played alongside Arsenal loanee Konstantinos Mavropanos - the Greek impressing highly in his time at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.

The defender is widely expected to complete a permanent move to Stuttgart regardless of what division they’re in next season but regardless, he has certainly had positive things to say about his stint at the Emirates - words that Sosa would do well in listening to.

Speaking to iNews, Mavropanos said: "I remember it was when I went to London on January 1st. I couldn't believe I would sign for Arsenal. It was really special to me."

"Yes, it seems difficult, but it is not difficult for me, because as I said, Arsenal is a very familiar club, from the first day here, the people around me are very kind to me," he continued.

It remains to be seen whether Sosa takes his teammate’s decision on board as he attempts to come to a decision on his future but it will certainly be noteworthy to Arsenal that they already have an individual already talking up the prospect of signing for the club.
