It's a beautiful golden Scottish beach that looks like it could be from another, much warmer country.
Locals flock to it on hot days, and you'd easily mistake it for a popular seaside resort, however, it's not quite what (or where) you might think on first appearance.
The shore of Loch Morlich, near Aviemore, is in fact the only award-winning freshwater beach in Scotland.
Emerging from ancient Caledonian Pine forests, you'll arrive at the golden sands of the beach, which are lapped by the beautiful clear waters of the loch and look out onto the stunning snow-capped peaks of the Cairngorm Mountains and Ben Macdui.
How to get there
According to the Forestry and Land Scotland website: "From the roundabout at the south end of Aviemore follow the signs for 'The Cairngorms' for 6 miles.
"Stay on the main road passing the first car park at Loch Morlich, continuing on to the far end of the loch. A sign for 'Loch Morlich Watersports' marks the entrance to Loch Morlich Beach."

Things you can do
Other than indulging in a spot of sunbathing or enjoying the truly breathtaking view, you can actually hire watersports equipment such as boats, canoes or windsurfers at Loch Morlich Watersports. Their experts are also on hand to help show you how they work too.
Situated close to the forest at the foot of the Cairngorms, right in the middle of Glenmore Forest Park, there are a few great walking trails, including the Loch Morlich Trail which winds its way around the waters of the loch.
Those who are brave can also swim in its waters – designated bathing water site – but authorities advise being aware of the dangers and dress appropriately (ideally you'll want a wetsuit).
Wildlife
Red squirrels, deer, badgers, red-throated divers and otters are all common sights at the loch, which can be abundant with wildlife on quieter days.
If you are lucky you may even see ospreys and the native crossbills.
Amenities and rules
There are toilets available 24/7 during the summer months but they are seasonal, they close on October 31 and re-open on April 1 every year.
No camping is allowed within the car park area and fires and barbecues are not permitted on the beach.
