Irish rock band The Script have tonight confirmed that guitarist Mark Sheehan has passed away in hospital at the age of 46.
Mark, who co-founded The Script in the mid-2000s along with frontman Danny O'Donoghue and drummer Glen Power, had been battling illness in recent months.
A tweet from the group this evening reads: "Much loved husband, father, brother, band mate and friend Mark Sheehan passed away today in hospital after a brief illness. The family and group ask fans to respect their privacy at this tragic time."

Mark missed several scheduled concerts with the group last summer, though his bandmates refused to disclose the reason for his absence on the American leg of their tour.
Mark and singer Danny had been best friends since they grew up with one another in Dublin in their early teens and established a song-writing partnership that saw their early years in the industry spent in Los Angeles writing and producing songs for some of music's biggest names.
The Script have sold more than 20 million records worldwide and have won several esteemed awards in categories such as Best Album, Best Live Performance and Song of the Year.
Since the news of Mark's tragic passing emerged, tributes have been pouring in for the talented musician.
"I’m lost for words !! He will be missed and won’t be forgotten," one fan wrote.
"Don’t know what to say," another commented. "I’m happy I got to meet him he will always be a legend. Sending love and strength to family and friend."
Another heartfelt comment read: "I can't explain this weird feeling, I'm absolutely shocked. I'm so sorry for your loss. Mark was so loved by fans and friends, this is a terrible lost. Our hearts and condolences are with his family, friends and the group. Rest in peace Mark."
