The Script guitarist Mark Sheehan, 46, dies following brief illness

The guitarist in the band The Script has died aged 46 following a 'brief illness'.

The Irish group posted a statement calling him a 'Much loved husband, father, brother, band mate and friend', and confirming his death.

Family and bandmates have asked fans for privacy following the tragic news.

A statement from the Irish group read: ‘Much loved husband, father, brother, band mate and friend Mark Sheehan passed away today in hospital after a brief illness.

‘The family and group ask fans to respect their privacy at this tragic time.’

Before joining The Script, Mark was a former member of the band MyTown, along with bandmate Danny O' Donoghue. Last year, it was reported that he missed the US leg of the group’s tour due to 'family commitments'.
