The Salvation Army has launched a new furniture showroom in Perth aimed at boosting its outreach work in the town and helping cut down on landfill.
The church and charity has opened the store on Glasgow Road, specialising in selling furniture and other large items.
The showroom is over two floors and also sells clothes.
Volunteers will also be on hand to offer a range of support to people referred for assistance.
All profits will go to The Salvation Army’s church and community centre, which runs a range of programmes including a drop-in centre, youth club and community cafe.
Church leader Andrew Howe said: “This is an exciting time for The Salvation Army in Perth.
“The ownership for the store comes from the local church so when people buy a piece of furniture they are helping our community.
“The project has had fantastic support so far, and a number of companies and charities have gone the extra mile to help us get it up and running.
“We’re hoping the shop will also have a positive environmental effect by helping cut down on the amount of the furniture that ends up in landfill.”
Lt-Col Carol Bailey, The Salvation Army’s leader in the east of Scotland, said: “During a time when budgets are tight and there is great need in our communities, the project provides a great place to purchase good quality items at a reasonable cost, as well as being informal calling points for local people to find support.”
The Salvation Army’s furniture showroom is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm.
Collection of unwanted but usable items is free of charge within the Perth area.
