The royal family’s secret about their Wimbledon Royal Box has been revealed

Kate Middleton

Wimbledon is officially in full swing, with the historic tournament starting this week.

Yes, this means we can expect some shock knock outs, Pimm's and of course a lot of royal appearances.

The royal family are known to be Wimbledon fans, with the Princess of Wales, patron of All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, often spotted watching from the Royal Box. In fact, she was in attendance just this week alongside good friend and Grand Slam champion Roger Federer.

It was a revelation about the Royal Box rather than Kate Middleton however that made the most news last year, as it emerged that the seats weren’t only the best in the house in terms of view - they also come with other considerable perks too.

According to experts, the Royal Box is full of secret perks, hidden from public view -  gift bags, a stunning afternoon tea and a flat screen TV built into the balcony so that you can watch the other matches on different courts at the same time.

How did we not know this until recently?

Well, rather hilariously, the news wasn’t broken by the royal family at all. Instead, it was David Beckham who accidentally let the cat out of the bag, photographing the Royal Box’s TV in a selfie he took with his mum in the next row up last year.

We're sure it's not just the royal perks that have Kate returning though, with the Princess of Wales known to be a life-long fan of the tournament.

"[Wimbledon] was very much part of my growing up," she recalled in a past interview. "It's such a quintessential part of the English summer, and I think it really inspires youngsters. It inspired me, when I was younger to get involved in the game. It hasn't changed either, I think that's what's so wonderful."

"There's nothing quite like the first week of Wimbledon," the Princess of Wales posted to Instagram this week. "Fantastic to join the crowds watching @katiecboulter on Court 18 and @andymurray on Centre Court. And how good to see the Ball Boys and Girls putting their skills into action @rogerfederer?"

Well, that’s lovely and we're thrilled that Wimbledon is officially back!
