The Rolling Stones have released two new songs in Devine Intervention, featuring The Cure singer Robert Smith, and Jealous Lover – which is accompanied by a video starring actress Anya Taylor-Joy.
Jealous Lover, which features a sound reminiscent of some of the band’s soul and disco-inspired work such as Fool To Cry, Emotional Rescue and Miss You, is the latest single from the upcoming album Foreign Tongues – following the release of the songs In The Stars and Rough And Twisted earlier this year.
Devine Intervention, which was also released on Thursday, features the band’s recognisable blues-tinged rock sound of the early 1970s with Smith contributing guitar. The song is one of two on Foreign Tongues that the Friday I’m In Love singer will appear on.
The Jealous Lover video, launched on Amazon Music, also features former Glee actor Charles Melton, who arrives with Taylor-Joy at a motel before the pair have an argument which sees her chase him through the venue before multiplying when she attempts to stop him leaving down a flight of stairs.
Both songs feature an appearance from former Spencer Davis Group and Traffic musician Steve Winwood on keys, with the album also due to feature appearances from former Beatles bass player Sir Paul McCartney, Smith and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ drummer Chad Smith.
It comes after the music video for In The Stars featured Marty Supreme star Odessa A’zion, along with CGI versions of the band’s members, singer Sir Mick Jagger and guitarists Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood, in their younger years.
The Rolling Stones official podcast, Speaking In Tongues, will also see its first episode released on a number of podcast platforms on Thursday, hosted by singer Norah Jones.
Foreign Tongues will be released on July 10 on a wide range of formats, including CD, cassette, vinyl record, and special box sets.
The record follows 2023’s Hackney Diamonds that also featured Sir Paul playing bass on the song Bite My Head Off.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest rock and roll bands of all time, The Rolling Stones have achieved eight UK number one singles and 14 UK number one albums, their best known songs include (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction, Start Me Up, Brown Sugar and Jumpin’ Jack Flash.
The Stones’ line-up on their first album included Sir Mick, Richards and drummer Charlie Watts, who died in 2021, along with guitarist Brian Jones and bass player Bill Wyman. Jones died in 1969, while Wyman left the band in the early 1990s.
Jones was succeeded on guitar by Mick Taylor for a classic run of critically acclaimed albums, which included Let It Bleed (1969), Sticky Fingers (1971) and Exile On Main Street (1972), before former Faces guitarist Wood joined the band in 1975.
