Liverpool may have inadvertently interfered with Arsenal's last-gasp attempt to sign a striker on deadline day.
The Gunners have left themselves short in the forward department after allowing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to terminate his contract and leave on a free transfer to Barcelona.
It was a busy January transfer window in terms of exits, but the Gunners only officially announced the signing of one senior player in Auston Trusty, with the American subsequently being loaned back to Colorado Rapids until July.
They're now in a rather precarious position, where they only have two recognisable strikers in their first-team squad in Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah, both of whom are out of contract in the summer.
However, that wasn't entirely planned, and the Gunners worked tirelessly to improve that area before several deals collapsed for one reason or another.
Their top priority Dusan Vlahovic eventually signed for Juventus, whilst moves for others like Alexander Isak were strongly linked.
A late push for Spanish striker Raul de Tomas was also deemed too difficult to complete before the deadline, as sources close to the player revealed to football.london.
And as per CBS Sports, via the Mirror, they had one last throw of the dice with Mehdi Taremi of Porto, who was reportedly offered to the Gunners on loan earlier in the window.
But the Portuguese club's situation had changed drastically since that proposal was made, as they had sold Luiz Diaz to Liverpool over the weekend.
Jurgen Klopp's side hijacked Tottenham's move for the highly-rated Colombian and secured a £50million transfer for the winger.
The reported failed deal for Taremi just about sums up Arsenal's lack of luck in regards to January incomings, something that left fans bitterly frustrated.
Nevertheless, they've had a good clear out, and if they can squeeze into the top four, they may well be in a good position to strengthen in the summer.
