For most, holidays are about escaping normal life. Some people will want to relax and do as little as possible, but others will want to treat every day as an adventure.
Adventure holidays are increasing in popularity as more and more holidaymakers seek a transformative experience. There are predictions that the global adventure tourism market worth will reach $2 trillion by 2032.
If adventure holidays are something you have been itching to try, these destinations will be perfect for your next trip.
Brazil
Brazil may conjure up images of Carnival, Christ the Redeemer and Copacabana Beach. Whilst these are great things to experience, Brazil has so much more to offer.
Brazil is a haven for outdoor explorers as it is home to the largest waterfall system and the vast expanse of the Amazon rainforest. The Iguazu Falls are on the border between Brazil and Argentina and are stunning from both sides. To get the best view, take a boat ride right up the falls – pack a waterproof though as you will get wet!
Australia
Australia is a country on a lot of bucket lists, and for good reason. This country is packed full of opportunities for adventure. You could try your hand at snorkelling by visiting the Great Barrier Reef.
If water activities make a holiday special for you, head to the waterfalls in The Kimberley. There you can swim among the waterfalls but remember to keep an eye out for the resident crocodiles.
New Zealand
New Zealand is one of those countries that is great for adventures all year round. The landscape lends itself to adventurers with plenty of opportunities for skydiving, ziplining and bungee jumping.
If you are on the North Island, one of the best bungee jumps around is Taupō Bungy over the Waikato River which is just upstream from the Huka Falls. This bungee sees you falling 47 metres and you can choose to be dunked in the river at the end to make it an even more memorable experience.
Costa Rica
Costa Rica is a small country, but over a quarter of it is protected jungle. About 2.5 hours away from an airport is La Fortuna and this town is a haven for adventurers. Wherever you are in the town you can see Arenal Volcano. This impressive structure is worth a close-up look as you traverse old lava flows.
Once you are done adventuring for the day, head to Jalapas Restaurant. This eatery is a little off the beaten track but the food and views are both worth the trip. The building is set on the side of a hill with a great view of the volcano on one side and a sweeping valley on the other. There is no such thing as a good table as wherever you sit the view will be impressive.
