The Ricketts Family send bold eight-point Chelsea message to fans following Brentford protest

The Ricketts Family have been trying to put out the flames of fan backlash for weeks now after their intentions to buy Chelsea became clear.

A strong social media campaign spiralled all the way into a protest outside Stamford Bridge before Saturday's Premier League game against Brentford which strongly signalled opposition to The Ricketts' potential takeover.

However, on Sunday afternoon a statement was released from The Ricketts detailing an eight-point pledge to Chelsea Football Club. Breaking down their intentions for the club should their bid be favoured in the coming weeks. Most notable amongst the points was vowing to never join a European Super League.

Along with that, they pledge to make "no change to the club's name, badge and crest, or Chelsea blue, without the consent of supporters."

In response to fears from fans over their ownership of the Chicago Cubs, they plan to "commit the resources necessary across all levels of the club to continue winning trophies". Along with investment for the first team and academy.

Creating an "advisory committee with diverse representation" which would include a former men's and women's first team player, members of the Chelsea Supporters Trust and Chelsea pitch owners. Along with "influential community leaders".

They are also pledges for the potential redevelopment of Stamford Bridge, match the commitment to the Women's team and the charitable work of the Chelsea Foundation.

Whether this statement will greatly sway the current fan sentiment which has been in opposition to The Ricketts, remains to be seen.

Brian Wolff, head of the Chelsea Chicago Supporters Club, released a statement as well on Sunday directed at Raine Group. Calling for supporters to be "heard and consulted", and also encouraging Raine to "allow all bidders to publicly release their commitments and to clarify the steps taken to ensure a transparent and fair bidding process."

The Ricketts are the first to release a statement of such nature from the parties shortlisted to buy Chelsea Football Club from Abramovich, however this also comes after persistent opposition to them from supporters.

The Supporters Trust, who they namecheck in the pledge, released a statement on Saturday morning revealing the results of a survey done by members in regards to The Ricketts. In that survey, 72 per cent "currently do not have confidence that the Ricketts family would run an inclusive & successful club."

"77% do not support the Ricketts family’s bid" and that "The CST (Chelsea Supporters Trust) does not currently believe it is in the best interests of our members for the Ricketts bid to succeed."
