The Red Arrows: Where can you watch them in Scotland this summer

A hugely popular spectacle, an RAF Red Arrows flypast is something everyone loves to see.

Fresh from their Platinum Jubilee celebrations, the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team are now set to soar across the skies of the UK this summer.

And yes, that also includes dates in Scotland for 2022, with the RAF just releasing their summer schedule and the locations and dates you'll be able to see them.

Taking part in air festivals across the UK, they'll be taking part in two major displays.

The Red Arrows often carry out two shows and several flypasts in one day, using UK and overseas locations as bases.

Here is where you will be able to see them in Scotland.

July 20 - Scottish Week, Peterhead, Aberdeenshire

Scottish Week Peterhead is one of the top galas in Scotland and alongside the Red Arrows, there will also be WWII Spitfires and RAF Falcons parachute displays.

July 23 - The Making Waves Festival, Irvine

Ayrshire's beach music festival was originally planned for July 2020 to mark VisitScotland’s Year of Coasts and Waters celebration but had to be cancelled due to Covid.

The Red Arrows aerobatic display changes each year, and it's usually revealed in May. Fans can keep up with the latest updates or changes through their social media.

There are three types of display they will normally perform:

  • Full – The full display requires cloud cover to be above 5,500ft to avoid entering clouds at the top of a loop.
  • Rolling – Between 5,500 and 2,500ft, the team will substitute wing overs and rolls for loops.
  • Flat – Less than 2,500ft, the team will only do flypasts and sharp turns.

Dates, locations and times are subject to change up until the event itself.
