The reason why Tesco is axing Clubcard app and how to save your points and vouchers

Tesco shoppers will soon be required to use a new app as the supermarket's Clubcard app is being axed.

You may have ditched your physical Clubcard long ago, scanning the barcode from your phone when doing your food shop instead. But the way the supermarket uses the loyalty card is about to change again.

From April 18, shoppers will need to download the new Tesco Grocery & Clubcard app to take advantage of the offers in store as the supermarket axes the Clubcard app. Shoppers will still be able to collect points, turn points into vouchers and create shopping lists, but will need to do so on the new platform, reports the The Mirror.

But why is the supermarket giant making the change and what do you need to do? Here is everything you need to know.

How to download the Tesco Grocery and Clubcard app

Shoppers will need to download the new Tesco Grocery & Clubcard app from April 18 (Tesco)

The Tesco Grocery & Clubcard app is available to download on Android and Apple devices.

Shoppers can install the app from Apple App Store and Google Play.

Alternatively, the new app is available for download through the current Clubcard app. Downloading this way will allow your account to be automatically moved to the new platform.

Will Clubcard points be saved?

No need to worry about loosing the points collected in the old app. All points, vouchers or coupons will simply rollover to the new Grocery & Clubcard app.

If you do not download the app, points will continue to shop on your online account when you log in.

What have Tesco said about the move?

A Tesco spokesperson told the Mirror: "With the combined power of Clubcard Prices, coupons and vouchers alongside our Reward Partner codes, Clubcard is the best way to get value at Tesco – and our Grocery and Clubcard app is the easiest way to make the most of all your Clubcard has to offer.

"You can use it when shopping online or in-store as a one-stop-shop to save money, collect points and use your vouchers and coupons.

"You can also unlock extra value from your vouchers by using them with one of our Reward Partners through the Grocery & Clubcard app."

The update will be rolled out in every Tesco store.
