Covid infection rates are falling in every part of the UK for the first time since mid-August, latest data has shown. It's also been revealed that hospitalisation levels in Wales are approaching the lowest levels seen since the pandemic began.
There had been fears just last month that the latest variants of the virus, which include a subvariant of Omicron called BQ1, would cause a dangerous new wave, yet the latest figures suggest the surge in cases witnessed since the end of the summer is subsiding rapidly in Wales.
The latest figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) infection survey, which is based on a random sample, has revealed that the estimated number of people in Wales testing positive for the virus for the week ending November 1 was 72,400, which equates to 2.38% of the population or around one in 40 people.
