The real reason Rangers fans will be gutted Bobby Madden is offski as Celtic diehard goes trolling - Hotline

Bobby Madden decision to decant down south and continue his refereeing career in the English lower leagues provided some Hotline hilarity.

The whistler's talents have split opinion over the years and there were very few callers thanking him for the memories.

Paul McArdle, Gourock, said: " Rangers will be gutted they didn't pick up a fee for Madden transferring to English football. Madden will be gutted he's missed out on a testimonial at Ibrox and every club who plays against Rangers will rejoice."

Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, said: "Scottish football will never be the same as Madden blows his whistle for the last time and gives our game the red card. He's the most controversial referee the game has ever seen as he takes up his new job in the lower leagues of England where the fans will leave him wishing he stayed at home."

Alan McPherson, Moray, said: "So Madden is off down south, all I can say is good riddance and take the rest of your mates with you. I for one won’t miss his biased decisions and the 10 penalties a season he awards to a certain Glasgow club."

Kevin Lord, Drylaw, said: "Madden's decision to continue his refereeing career in England should come under scrutiny. The Lowland League would put a complaint in if he was allocated there and fans down south are about to see how bad he is for themselves."

Ross Webster, emailed: " Ange Postecoglou still hasn’t signed a new contract and now is he bedding the new guy in? Harry Kewell is an interesting arrival but Ange needs to get his contract sorted."

Jimmy Murray, Edinburgh, said: " Does it not tell you something when Kewell is brought in as a first team coach and serial hanger-on John Kennedy is number two and Gavin Strachan is number three.

"It tells me Peter Lawwell is still pulling the strings. Kennedy and Strachan are proven failures and is it not about time the club is telling the fans the truth? Why are they still in a job?"

John Scott, Grassmoor, said: "Given Rangers are one of Britain's high profile clubs, Douglas Park's business will likely be doing well from his sponsorship. In other words, he and Rangers both benefit. Now we're told they will happily accept money from a sponsor they won't endorse. That begs a question, If they win this season's Premiership title, will they allow their team to stand on a podium covered in Cinch branding, bang in the middle of Ibrox? Or will they let Celtic triumph to escape the brass-necked embarrassment?"

Robert Pender, emailed: "I am happy with big John McLaughlin as the number one at Rangers. The number of goals we lost by not taking control of our six yard box was alarming. Big John came out and caught the ball and it was a problem solved."

Kenny Goff, emailed: "Benjamin Siegrist will be going from being a number one keeper to a bench warmer if he makes the move to Celtic. If he does sign for them then it's clear he's only doing it for the money as it makes no sense."

John Bruce, emailed: "The Hotline is an excellent platform for fans to trade not so friendly insults and football banter, but it's been pretty quiet until last Friday's release of next season's fixtures.

"Celtic fans couldn't have wished for an easier opening game than a visit from perennial bottlers Aberdeen. That'll be three home points guaranteed then. What about Rangers' near 400 mile round trip to Ross County on Christmas Eve? It won't give the Rangers players much time to wrap their gifts for Neil Doncaster and the board of the SPFL by the time their bus gets back late on the Saturday night."

And finally a question for motor sport fans.

George Fairgrieve, Edinburgh, said: "What happened to Lewis Hamilton? From being almost unbeatable he’s now struggling to get a speeding ticket. Did he take his eye off the ball? Perhaps it was too much time spent jumping about the globe with chains and padlocks around his neck rather than concentrating on the job."
