After every day of the draft, head coaches and general managers will make themselves available to the media to explain the thought processes behind the picks. It’s generally enlightening, but wouldn’t you like to hear more from the people who spend all year scouting those prospects and filtering their reports up to the names we know? That’s where you get the granular detail you don’t often get — even from the people in charge in any facility.
Other teams have done this in the past to a greater or lesser degree, but the Baltimore Ravens made Joe Hortiz, their director of player personnel, available to the media after the team’s 2022 draft came down. If you liked the Ravens’ draft (and most of us did), this is an opportunity to get inside the mind of the guy who had been talking to the scouts all year, and giving that information to general manager Eric DeCosta, head coach John Harbaugh, and the rest of the staff.
It’s a fascinating look inside the process, and you can watch the entire video here. And here’s what Hortiz had to say about every Ravens pick in 2022.
