Kris Boyd believes Rangers are set to come out ahead if Derek McInnes replaces Danny Rohl at Ibrox, insisting the incoming Heart of Midlothian boss would represent an “upgrade” on the outgoing German.
Boyd has suggested Rangers chiefs may have quietly anticipated Danny Rohl’s exit, with a move to Red Bull Salzburg now imminent.
Rangers had publicly backed the 37-year-old despite a dismal end to the Premiership campaign, but he is now set to depart for Austria after the clubs agreed a deal.
Hearts manager McInnes is poised to take over on a three-year contract, and Boyd believes the switch could work strongly in Rangers’ favour.

“You’ve got to say that if it does materialise, [Andrew] Cavenagh and the 49ers have played a blinder,” Boyd told the Scottish Sun.
“For the Rangers board to publicly say they’re going to back him, I think they fully expected someone to come along and ask the question.
“From potentially having to pay a manager off, they’re now in a situation where they’re going to get money for Rohl, and for me, an upgrade.”
