What the Paliwals Left Behind
Walk into Kuldhara today and the walls are still standing. That is the first thing that unsettles you. Ruins suggest collapse, a slow giving-in to time and weather. Kuldhara did not collapse. The stone houses of the Paliwal Brahmins are intact enough that you can see where the kitchen was, where the cattle were kept, where a family might have sat in the evening. The Archaeological Survey of India has maintained the site since it was declared a protected heritage monument, which means the place is preserved in its exact state of mid-exit. Not destroyed. Not reclaimed. Just stopped.
