You have already passed them
You came to Golconda for the fort. You clapped at the acoustic demonstration near the entrance, climbed to the Bala Hisar pavilion, looked out over Hyderabad's sprawl, and then walked back down to the auto-rickshaw. On the way out, through the window, you passed a cluster of domed structures in grey-green granite. Someone in the vehicle might have said: tombs. And then you were back on the highway. The Qutb Shahi tombs are not a footnote to Golconda. They are the other half of the same story, and they are sitting 1.3 kilometres from the fort's entrance, on land the Aga Khan Trust for Culture spent years restoring. The gardens around them, once overgrown to the point of invisibility, are now among the most carefully tended heritage grounds in Deccan India. Most visitors never stop.
