The Queen has left behind a massive fortune following her death last week, with estimates suggesting that the Royal Family hold €78 billion worth of assets.
However, the late monarch’s individual wealth settles at a slightly smaller figure of €490 million. The fortune includes valuables such as jewellery, art and real estate, according to a survey conducted by Forbes.
It’s clear that even Ireland’s richest people cannot compare to the vast combined wealth of the British monarchy. However, there are still several Irish billionaires with finances that can compete and even trump her individual fortune, which is set to be inherited by King Charles.

According to the annual Knight Frank Wealth Report, it takes a net worth of €2.6 million to be considered one of the 1% in Ireland. This is a higher figure than in many European nations, such as France and Germany.
The top entry for Ireland’s richest living person is Patrick Collison, CEO and co-founder of innovative tech company Stripe. The company offers its clients payment processing services and received €20 million in funding from Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
Patrick and his brother John, who also founded Stripe, featured on Forbes 2022 rich list and together have a combined net worth of reportedly $9.5 billion. However, the Limerick born billionaire does not count as an Irish resident as he lives predominantly in San Francisco, California.
Ireland’s previous richest person, Pallonji Mistry, had a personal fortune worth €4.4 billion. The Indian born construction tycoon gained Irish citizenship in 2003 and was hailed a ‘man of mystery’ as he kept away from the public eye. He passed away in June this year at the age of 93.
Other notable mentions on Ireland’s rich list include John Magnier, Ireland’s leading thoroughbred stud owner, worth €2.8 billon and J.P McManus, also known for his race horse dealings, as well as his lucrative career in business. McManus is worth a reported €2.6 billion.
