The Queen's 'naughty' pre-breakfast snack that her grandkids would approve of

The Queen's secret pre-breakfast snack has been confirmed - and it will be sure to impress her great grandchildren.

Throughout her nearly 70 year reign of Britain, her Majesty has been known for being a creature of comfort, and her first food of the day is no exception.

As well as waking up at the same time each morning and following the same schedule, her specific regime also includes drinking only the finest tea and taking a precise bath.

Royal fans will also know of Elizabeth II's penchant for a sweet treat and she is not shy of indulging her guilty pleasures.

According to MyLondon, the Queen has previously been described her as a chocoholic and her great-grandchildren, including Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis and Prince George, would be sure to love her morning treat.

While she is perhaps one of the best-travelled nonagenarians in the world and has sampled hundreds of different types of food, it is only expected that she will have come across something that is her absolute favourite.

And you would be forgiven for confusing the Queen’s favourite breakfast snack with that of a fussy toddler because, believe it or not, the first thing the Queen eats in the morning is a few biscuits. But which type of biscuit is her go-to? Former royal chef Darren McGrady said: "When I was there… Chocolate Bath Olivers.”

Darren has previously said: "She is absolutely a chocoholic. Anything we put on the menu that had chocolate on, she would choose, especially chocolate perfection pie," he added.

Makers Huntley & Palmer describe Chocolate Olivers on their website as: “Rich, dark chocolate, generously enrobed around a crisp slow-baked biscuit Chocolate Olivers are the ultimate biscuit indulgence, made using a patented recipe from the 1930s, which includes hops and malt, with the thickest, richest dark chocolate."

With her cheeky breakfast treat, The Queen will have her first cup of tea. It is said that Her Majesty prefers Earl Grey with no sugar and the occasional drop of milk. While it may surprise you to learn of the Queen's obsession with sweet treats, she is not the only royal who loves chocolate.

At the time of Afternoon Tea, the Queen will have another cup of Earl Grey tea and sample cakes such as ginger cake, jam pennies and chocolate biscuit cake. The chocolatey treat is also a favourite of her grandson Prince William. In fact, he loved the cake so much that he had it as his second wedding cake at his 2011 nuptials to the Duchess of Cambridge.

It's well known that Prince William has a sweet tooth like his grandmother. During a video call to schoolchildren before Easter a few years ago, Catherine revealed that William couldn't stop eating their supply of Easter chocolate.

As the couple wished everyone a Happy Easter, William reassured them that: "There will be a lot of chocolate being eaten here, don't worry!" Before his wife quickly replied: "You keep eating it!"

When it comes to the chocolate biscuit cake, chocolatier Barry Colenso has said: “Although the McVitie's Cake Company and I developed it into a wedding cake, we stuck closely to the guidelines issued from Buckingham Palace to make sure it was just right. It was rich, indulgent and creamy with a really snappy texture which came from the Rich Tea biscuits.”

On creating the chocolate confection Barry continued: “The Tiffin cake itself was pretty straightforward as the recipe was issued from the Palace, but the extras and decorations were a different story. The McVities' team and I worked 24/7 for 29 straight days to make sure we made something spectacular, and that met Prince William and Kate's brief.”
