Sir Ken Olisa

'The Queen held my hand and consoled me after cancer diagnosis'

Born and brought up in Hyson Green, Sir Kenneth Olisa OBE has now held the position of Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London for the past seven years. The successful businessman and philanthropist, who was awarded an honorary degree from Nottingham Trent University in 2015, received the late Queen and now King Charles III on official visits in the city.

Sir Ken was in attendance when Elizabeth II's coffin arrived at RAF Northolt last Saturday and today, Monday, September 19, he will be in attendance at the Queen's state funeral. In an article for The Mirror, Sir Ken reflects on his memories of a charming, thoughtful and loving monarch.

“The first time I met the late Queen, after my appointment as her Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London, was at a Buckingham Palace reception. Like everyone who meets a member of the Royal Family, suddenly my tongue was about 9ft long, and I found it very hard to speak. But she was welcoming and charming.
