The Parent Trap actress' theory proves villain Meredith Blake was actually the 'victim'

Fans of beloved romantic comedy The Parent Trap will no doubt still loathe wicked would-be stepmother Meredith Blake, but few will have considered things from her point of view.

Now actor Elaine Hendrix has rushed to the defence of her much-loathed character to mark the 24th anniversary of the 1998 film, telling the story from Meredith's perspective.

The introduction of glamorous 'ice woman' Meredith creates somewhat of a spanner in the works of Hallie and Annie's transatlantic scheme to reunite their long-separated parents, and the twins do everything in their power to push her out of the picture.

However, perhaps we should have given some thought to how it might feel to discover your fiancé has a secret child living in another country, only for both his children to then conspire against you.

Taking to TikTok, Hendrix channelled the current "he's a 10 but..." trend to revive her potentially misunderstood character, recounting her doomed whirlwind engagement with vineyard owner Nick Parker (Dennis Quaid).

Pouring a glass of wine - which one follower joked had come from Nick's vineyard - 'Meredith' could be seen looking pensive as she recalled the events of nearly a quarter century ago, Adele's Easy on Me playing out in the background.

Text overlaying the vid reads: "He's a 10 but he had twins he secretly separated at birth when he broke up with their mother and didn't tell you about it until the twins discovered each other at camp and swapped places to try and get their parents back together.

"And you not so accidentally run into all of them at the same hotel right before your wedding, so you go on a camping trip to get to know one another, but you're not a nature girl, and the twins know it."

Some have argued the parents are the true villains of the filn (Disney)

Taking a big sip of wine, Hendrix - who goes by the username @elaine4animals continued: "So the little brats put rocks in your backpack, a lizard on your head, sugar water in your mosquito repellant, and push your air mattress into the lake while you're sleeping.

"So you lose your s***, threaten to ship them to Switzerland, and throw a ring at his head. And you've never looked back."

After watching the vid, many others have found themselves sympathising with Meredith's admittedly pretty tough ordeal, with some even arguing that parents Nick and Elizabeth James (Natasha Richardson) are the true villains of the movie.

One person wrote: "Growing up is realizing Meredith Blake wasn't the villain and she was just annoyed because she had a great time with him and twins ruined it."

Another empathised: "They did you so dirty and he was a hot dad with a vineyard, I am Meredith, I want that life too."
