The third major of the golfing calendar is fast approaching as the biggest names in the game compete for the Claret Jug at Royal Liverpool.
This is the 13th time the Open has been staged in Hoylake, with the previous edition being in 2014 as Rory McIlroy came out on top after finishing -17 after four rounds.
McIlroy is among the favourites to prevail on this occasion, having come agonisingly close to finishing at top spot at the US Open at Los Angeles Country Club. Wyndham Clark secured top spot with a score of -10, edging the Northern Irishman who finished even par during the final day of the tournament to post a final score of -9.
Fierce competition is also expected to be provided from world No.1 ranked Scottie Scheffler, who rallied at the US Open to secure a third-placed finish. World No.2, Jon Rahm, ended up T10 at -3 and will be looking to bag his second major of the year having prevailed as the winner of the Masters in April.
Brooks Koepka, the current PGA Championship holder, cannot be overlooked either having showcased his ability at Augusta when going head-to-head with Rahm for the green jacket. Last year's Open champion Cameron Smith is available at odds of 18/1 at multiple bookmakers, which seems somewhat generous after a strong -6 showing at the US Open.
Viktor Hovland, who secured the fourth PGA Tour win of his career earlier this month at the Memorial Tournament, may also be worth considering at 14/1. The Norwegian ended T4 in last year's Open and placed in the top ten at this year's Masters and PGA Championship.
