The 'only dodgy thing' about Leeds United loanee Leo Hjelde revealed by Rotherham United captain

Rotherham United captain Richard Wood has claimed that the only thing that's 'dodgy' about Leeds United loanee Leo Hjelde is his dress sense after his fantastic start to life with the Millers.

The Norwegian defender has started five of Rotherham's last six matches since he left Elland Road midway through the January transfer window in a deal which will see him play under manager Matt Taylor for the rest of the season.

The 19-year-old has averaged a 7.45 rating (via FotMob ) over his first four matches with the club, and Wood has highlighted that he was the main reason they were able to come out as victors against in-form Sunderland last month.

“The only dodgy thing about Leo Hjelde is his dress sense. The young Norwegian has been a quality January loan addition for us at left-back.

"I watched our 2-1 win over Sunderland from the West Stand at New York Stadium and he was a stand-out performer.

"Amad Diallo has been unbelievable for the Black Cats this season, providing a lot of assists and scoring plenty of goals, but the winger was hardly in the game because Leo did so well against him."

Hjelde has already made 27 appearances at various international youth levels, but is yet to make his senior debut alongside the likes of Manchester City's Erling Haaland.

However, Wood is in no doubt about the teenager’s credentials having only played alongside him for just over a month, saying: "Leo’s parent club are Leeds United and you can see why he’s rated so highly at Elland Road.

"He’s going to have a career in the Premier League and I’m sure he’ll also go on to play for Norway’s national side. Despite his tenders years — he’s only 19, remember — he’s been around a bit: he’s lived in England, South Korea, Norway and Scotland and is now back in England.

"His English is excellent and he’s fitted in really well with the lads. Some of his gear is open to question however. He had a pair of trousers on the other day that I didn’t approve of.

"They’re probably very fashionable — most of the other lads loved them — but in my old man’s eyes they weren’t right!"
