The Queen has reportedly banned younger Royals from bringing one particular item to the dinner table. Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, and indeed their parents, William and Kate, are not allowed this one thing if eating with the Queen, according to an author and former MP.
Gyles Brandreth told ITV's This Morning: “The Queen is my role model in all things. One of the things she won’t allow at the table with her grandchildren and indeed her great-grandchildren is mobile phones at mealtimes. She likes a formal meal, and I too like a fairly formal meal. It doesn’t mean to say you have to have a napkin. But you do have to sit at the table nicely and you certainly mustn’t eat with your mouth open!”
Garlic is also banned at Buckingham Palace meals. Darren McGrady, who served as royal chef at Buckingham Palace for almost 15 years. revealed why. Speaking to RecipesPlus, Darren said: “There will never be garlic on the Queen’s menu. We can never serve anything with garlic or too much onions. We also couldn't serve meat that was rare, as she liked her meat more well done."
During her 2018 MasterChef appearance, the Duchess of Cornwall was asked about what foods you wouldn’t see at a royal reception. She said in reply: “I hate to say this but garlic. Garlic is a no-no.”
