Here is today's edition of The Nottinghamian:
Hello,
Hope you have all had a lovely week and are ready for the weekend. Today's edition of the Nottinghamian focuses on claims Goose Fair could be disrupted following the news a circus is set to take place on the site just days before the fair.
We will also discuss sports bar Hooters causing a stir among parents as they sponsor a local junior football team. Plus an American foodie is set to take on a Notts challenge and I recommend somewhere you should try this weekend which offers both indoor and outdoor seating.
Potential disruption
The people bringing Goose Fair to Nottingham fear that Europe's largest touring circus could cause disruption. Gandeys Circus is set to have its big top on the Forest Recreation Ground from Saturday, September 10, to Sunday, September 18 just 10 days before the fair opens.
The decision by Nottingham City Council to allow the circus on the site hasn't gone down well with Goose Fair showmen. They are concerned it could leave the grass churned up, making it difficult for them to set up the rides and attractions.
William Percival, chairman of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Showman's Guild, said at a meeting "our members were going barmy about it". The ride operators arrive several days before the fair opens to allow plenty of time for setting up but fear added disruption to themselves and nearby residents.
The centuries-old Goose Fair is due to take place from September 30 to October 9 - the first since 2019. It has been extended to 10 days to make up for the event being postponed over the last two years. No one from Nottingham City Council was available for comment. Read more here.
Causing a stir
Hooters has caused a stir after the restaurant has agreed to sponsor Burton Joyce's Under-10 football team. The American sports bar chain in Nottingham is now set to sponsor the junior team for their forthcoming youth football season.
Hooters Nottingham confirmed the news yesterday in a Facebook post with pictures of the players posing with two waitresses from the restaurant. The caption read: “Hooters Nottingham are proud to be the new sponsors of Burton Joyce U10s. We wish you all the luck this season boys. Go smash it.”
Some people were quick to flood the comments section as they jokingly reacted to the news, with one writing: “The attendances are up by 90%.” Another added: “I’m guessing ALL the dads showed up for this match.” However, not all parents found the new sponsor suitable with some questioning how it was thought to be acceptable with one saying: "Wrong on so many levels."
Weather and trivia
Weather: Mainly dry start on Saturday with some scattered showers. Bands of rain and occasionally heavy showers sweeping across the region in the afternoon, some of these giving a risk of thunder. Maximum temperature 24 °C.

Recommendation
Name: Lincolnshire Poacher
Address: 161-163 Mansfield Rd, Nottingham NG1 3FR
Cuisine: Castle Rock pub serving traditional meals and drinks
Sitting halfway up Mansfield Road, the Lincolnshire Poacher offers a laid-back atmosphere in a traditional setting whilst just on the edge of the lively city centre. The Castle Rock pub serves their well-known local ales and cask beer but if that isn't your style, they also offer a range of spirits, wines and beers as well as soft drinks.
Lincolnshire Poacher brings a cosy atmosphere of times gone by with a classic bar area, Victorian-style wood-panelled snug and a walled beer garden accessed through a conservatory. The pub blends old with new as metal signs from the likes of Cadbury's and Players are dotted around the garden. The outside space features an eclectic mix of furniture, even including beach huts transformed with benches and tables.
They offer hearty home-cooked meals every day including pub classics. The Lincolnshire Poacher can be enjoyed any time throughout the year from sunny days outside to winter nights trying to get warm. The relaxing and friendly atmosphere gives off a local pub vibe while on the cusp of Nottingham city centre.
Mega food challenge
An American professional eater is set to take on Nottingham's food scene with a mega food challenge this weekend. YouTube sensation Randy Santel, who boasts nearly 1.5m followers, is stopping off here on his tour of the UK's biggest belly-busting plates.
Doughnotts will be providing the food - a massive 14-inch monster doughnut. So far, nothing has beaten Randy and he will attempt to hoover up the massive sugary creation in front of fans at Doughnotts' city centre shop in King Street on Sunday. The 36-year-old from Missouri will be joined by his partner Katina Eats Kilos, who is no stranger to food challenges.
The doughnut, normally saved for birthdays, will be topped with chocolate frosting decorated with Peanut Butter Cups, Toffee Crisps, Peanut Butter Pretzels, Kinder Bars, Kinder Hippos, Chocolate Dodgers, Smarties, Galaxy Caramel and toffee puddles. Katina will kick off the challenge at 2pm before Randy's attempt. Even writing that list made me feel full so good luck to the pair!
