Here is the Nottinghamian from Thursday, December 29:
Hello,
Today's edition of the Nottinghamian brings news of Nottingham City Council's latest review. They are set to spend up to £150,000 to figure out how the council can boost its income.
We will also take a look at Nottingham's reaction as the city and Wollaton born actress Vicky McClure appear on the small screen. Plus a round up of the best street style from this year and why customers were queueing outside Aldi on Thursday morning.
Review
Nottingham City Council will spend up to £150,000 on a review looking at how it can boost its income in a move which one councillor has labelled "bizarre". As part of broader efforts to fill a financial gap of £32 million next year, Nottingham City Council recently said that it would be carrying out a review of fees and charges across the area.
This will include fees for parking, cremations and burials, as well as charges at leisure centres and cafés, including a tax rise of 5%. Such measures require a period of public consultation, which is currently running until January 25. Nottingham City Council now says that rather than having its own staff carry out the fees and charges review, it will be done by a consultancy firm at a cost of up to £150,000.
The council has approved the spend under a delegated decision, which was approved on December 23. In documents published as part of the decision, the council says that "internal resources are not available at this time to take this work on". Read more here.
All praise
Nottingham folk have praised Wollaton-born actress Vicky McClure's new ITVX drama Without Sin. The show, based in and around the city, was co-produced by and starred McClure.
Released on December 28, the thriller is about a mother (McClure) who comes face to face with someone who she believes to be her daughter's killer. Some of the locations in the drama include Beastmarket Hill, the Victoria Centre and its market and Nottingham Prison on Perry Road, Sherwood.
Jenny Clarkson, 44, from Carlton, said: “It was funny to see it based in Nottingham, they’re prime locations in the city. Everyone’s bound to have come across at some point, I’ve got the last two episodes to watch.” Ivan Rowe from Mapperley hasn’t watched the new drama yet but said: “I like her. I've watched her in Line of Duty, I’ve seen footage of the Dementia Choir. It’s nice it’s done here, though, she holds Nottingham close to her heart.”

Street style
As 2022 comes to an end, it is a fitting time to look back at some of the best street style the Nottinghamian has covered this year. The launch of the newsletter came at a time of record breaking temperatures. Zoe Harper (left) was battling the heat in a loose fitting pair of dungarees in a sunshine yellow.
As autumn approached, Naomi and Euan (middle) showed the importance of a jacket. The couple kept their outfits bright and colourful as Euan rightly said: "Do not be scared of using colour in your outfits, splash it on and see what works." One of my personal favourite outfits of the year came from Jane Morgan (right).
Inspired by the 1950s, Jane made her dress herself and described her style as "just trying to enjoy life, I love clothes and fashion." The street style segment has really helped to show off the many unique individual styles in Nottingham and to find out what fashion means to so many. I am already looking forward to seeing what 2023 will bring.
'Carnage'
Aldi shoppers were delighted as they managed to get hold of the extremely popular Prime Hydration energy drink despite 'carnage' queues. Adam Smith, 36, from Wollaton, queued from 7am with his ten-year-old son Charlie to get one of the limited edition drinks.
From Thursday, the highly-sought drink, created by YouTube stars KSI and Logan Paul, were stocked at all Aldi supermarkets for £1.99 as a Specialbuy. Mr Smith said they managed to get one of each of the three flavours but the drinks sold out quickly.
He said: "Every child is obsessed with this Prime Hydration drink so my son insisted that we got up this morning before Aldi opened at 8am because they are stocking it. We joined the queue at 7.20am and it was carnage but there wasn't enough for everyone."
Queues were also reported at the Daleside Road Aldi and Rivendell Aldi, off the A612 Colwick Loop Road. Previously, the drink was only stocked in ASDA and had been selling out, leaving people desperate to get their hands on one - the drink was even being sold on eBay for up to £50,000.
