A note given to mums at a baby bank in Swansea stopped Prince William and Princess Kate in their tracks on their royal visit yesterday (Tuesday). In their first appearance in the country since they were given the title of Prince and Princess of Wales, the royal couple visited St Thomas Church in Swansea and met with well-wishers both inside and outside.
The church, which is a community hub providing food, facilities for homeless people, a not-for-profit café and a community training kitchen, is the home of the Swansea Baby Basics scheme. The volunteer-led project supports vulnerable families living in Swansea and sends clothing, toiletries and other essentials to parents. On their visit to the church, the royal couple met with members of the church congregation and praised volunteers for their service to the community. The Princess was seen smiling as she met Charlotte Bunting, aged two, who was dressed in Welsh national costume and she listened intently as volunteers discussed the work being done at the project. You can read more stories about Swansea here.
When the royal couple went back to chat to volunteers from the baby bank after speaking to members of the congregation, a volunteer told Prince William about a special note that is given to all mums who visit the baby bank. The note, addressed to one mum, which was shown to the Royal pair, reads: "These items are a gift from the mothers of Swansea. We know how hard these first few weeks can be and we want you to have all you need.
"Here at Baby Basics we believe that God loves you and your son and we want to share that love with you." The Prince said the note was "very nice" and "would go a long way" for mothers using the baby bank.
