Noodles
On July 8, the Food Safety Authority of Ireland recalled batches of Lucky Me! Instant Noodles detailed in the table below are being recalled due to the presence of the unauthorised pesticide ethylene oxide.
The list of implicated batches was as follows:
Just five days later, on July 13, additional batches of Lucky Me! Instant Noodles, detailed in the table below, were recalled due to the presence of the same unauthorised pesticide ethylene oxide.
According to the Food Safety Authority of Ireland, “this pesticide is not authorised for use in foods sold in the EU.”
Although the consumption of the contaminated batches does not pose an acute risk to health, there may be health issues if there is a continued consumption of ethylene oxide over a long period of time.
“Therefore, exposure to this substance needs to be minimised,” authorities say.
Point-of-sale recall notices are being displayed in stores supplied with the implicated batches, which are:
Ice Cream
On July 8 there was also a recall of Specific Batches of Haagen-Dazs Vanilla Tub and Vanilla Collection Ice Cream due to the Presence of the Unauthorised Pesticide Ethylene Oxide
A statement released by a spokesperson read: “Several batches of Häagen-Dazs Vanilla tub and Häagen-Dazs Vanilla Collection ice cream are being recalled due to the presence of the unauthorised pesticide ethylene oxide.”
Ethylene oxide is a pesticide that is not permitted for use in foods sold in the EU but is approved for use by other countries outside the EU.
Although the consumption of the contaminated product does not pose an acute risk to health, there is an increased risk if there is a continued consumption of ethylene oxide in contaminated food over a long period of time.
“Therefore, exposure to ethylene oxide needs to be minimised,” they said.
Point-of-sale recall notices will be displayed in stores supplied with the implicated batches, which are all best before dates up to and including 21st May 2023, in tub pack sizes of 460ml and Häagen-Dazs Vanilla Collection pack size 4x95ml.
Bread
On July 13, Dunnes Stores was forced to recall a batch of their white floury baps due to undeclared allergens.
According to the FSAI, the implicated batch of Dunnes Stores White Sub Rolls was mispacked with Dunnes Stores Floury White Baps. They contain milk and eggs which are not declared on the ingredients list.
Therefore, this may make the batch unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of milk or eggs.
The implicated batches are pack sizes of 290 g with a best-before date of 17/07/2022.
