The drape that was built for doing, not displaying
Most sarees ask you to slow down. The nauvari does not. The nine-yard drape is pulled between the legs and tucked at the back, leaving the wearer's stride unbroken, a silhouette closer to a dhoti than to the decorative six-yard arrangements most people picture when they hear the word saree. Lavani dancers have performed in it for centuries. Women in the fields of Vidarbha and Marathwada wore it through harvests. The warrior queens of the Maratha tradition rode in it. The design was never about elegance as display. It was about keeping your hands free.
