Full list of games Thiago could miss as Liverpool injury timescale emerges

Thiago looks set for a significant spell on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring strain against Fulham on Saturday.

The Liverpool midfielder limped off five minutes into the second half as his side kicked off their 2022/2023 Premier League campaign with a 2-2 draw at Craven Cottage. He was sent for a scan on Sunday which revealed the extent of the hamstring strain will keep him out of action for at least the whole of August, while reports last night suggested it could be six weeks.

Jurgen Klopp’s injury-list is already piling up, with his Spanish star joining the likes of Curtis Jones, Diogo Jota and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the treatment table, while Naby Keita looks set to return to full training following a short illness.

And the 31-year-old’s lengthy spell out has come at the worst possible time, with fixtures already coming thick and fast thanks to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar this winter. Should Thiago be unavailable for the next six weeks as reported, he could miss the next seven league games as well as the first two Champions League games in early September.

And there are some big games in there too, not least a trip to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United later this month. The Spaniard missed last season’s 5-0 thrashing of their old rivals, again through injury, and would have been desperate to feature in just under two weeks time.

The former Bayern Munich man is also likely to miss September’s trip to Goodison Park for the Merseyside Derby - another ground where Liverpool blew away an old foe last season, winning 4-1 in December - and potentially a trip to face Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea in the middle of next month.

Klopp could also be without his maestro for four home league games against Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, Newcastle United and Wolves. And while the opponents are not yet known, the midfielder looks likely to miss the opening two games of this season’s Champions League campaign, with matchday one on September 6/7 and matchday two on September 13/14.

Here’s the list of potential games missed for Thiago as things stand:

15 August - Crystal Palace (H)

22 August - Manchester United (A)

27 August - Bournemouth (H)

31 August - Newcastle United (H)

3 September - Everton (A)

10 September - Wolves (H)

6/7 September - Champions League matchday 1

13/14 September - Champions League matchday 2

18 September - Chelsea (A)
